Unveiling the Origins of the Stearns Surname Through my IGENEA DNA Test Results
Family name Stearns
The findings from my IGENEA DNA test provide a captivating exploration of the Stearns surname in my ancestry. The results uncover fascinating links between the Stearns surname and regions across Europe, while the scientific examination of my genetic history draws correlations between my ancestral origins and key historical movements.
The striking revelations drawn from my IGENEA DNA test give me a newfound clarity on my roots. The discoveries showcase an intriguing perspective about my lineage and particularly, the origins of the Stearns surname in my ancestry.
The IGENEA DNA test uses advanced bioinformatics to outline Y-DNA or paternal and mitochondrial or maternal DNA. My paternal lineage was tested and the surprisingly fascinating results identified my Haplogroup to be R1b, predominantly found in western Europe. More specifically, R1b is heavily concentrated in regions such as Ireland, Great Britain and France. This suggests that the Stearns surname presumably has a strong link to these regions dating back thousands of years.
The analysis of my R1b Haplogroup showed that the surname Stearns falls within a subclade or branch known as R-U106. This branch is known for their emigration to northern Europe, particularly in the areas that now form part of Germany, Denmark, and The Netherlands. It's fascinating to think that this not only influences my surname’s origins, but also signifies some aspects of my genetic roots.
Furthermore, my maternal lineage, traced through mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA), revealed Haplogroup H, the most common mtDNA group in Europe.
Moreover, the IGENEA DNA test analysis points towards the Anglo-Saxon heritage of the Stearns surname. The surname Stearns appears to have emerged during the Migration Period, a time when various tribes moved around Europe between AD 300–700.
The surname Stearns has variants such as Sterns, Sterne, Starnes, possibly indicative of shifts over time and geography. Each of these variations of Stearns carry an evidence of my forebear's migratory history interwoven with many socio-cultural episodes of history. The results have illuminated the depth and richness of the Stearns lineage.
