Uncovering Roots: How iGENEA DNA Test Altered My Perception of Roth Ancestory
Family name Roth
Embarking on a journey to uncover my roots, I discovered unsuspected insights about my ancestors through a DNA test at iGENEA, expanding my understanding of my identity and my place in the world.
A curiosity about my Roth ancestors initiated a quest that led me to a DNA test at iGENEA. The results have immensely influenced my perspective about my heritage. Originally, our family believed that the Roths were firmly implanted in Switzerland, with perhaps a slight German influence. My understanding was turned on its head when the DNA test revealed a strong link to Scandinavia and, surprisingly, a tie to Jewish ancestry, which wasn’t known to our family before.
The Scandinavian connection was mystifying, given that our family history didn’t hint at any ties to the Nordic countries. However, upon further research, I discovered possible migration routes of my Viking ancestors traversing various parts of Europe, eventually arriving in Switzerland. This insight not only enriched my knowledge of our family's migratory patterns but awakened an interest in Viking culture and history.
The revelation of a Jewish connection was stunning. There were never any discussions or hints about Jewish roots in our family gatherings or history. Using the results from iGENEA, I explored possible scenarios of Jewish migration and assimilation, leading to the Roths in Switzerland. I learned about the diversity of the Jewish diaspora, their resilience and their vast contribution to human civilization. It left me with a sense of awe and sparking a newfound interest in Jewish culture, traditions, and history.
These unexpected insights from iGENEA have drastically altered my understanding of my own identity. The knowledge of my Viking and Jewish ancestors has not only influenced my perspective on the world but also shifted my inner self-perception. I now see myself as a fusion of diverse cultures, histories, and experiences that transcend time and boundaries. I feel connected to my ancestors in a way I didn't deem possible before and strive to carry their legacy forward with pride and respect.
As a direct result of my DNA test, I have begun to delve more deeply into my roots, with an understanding that our past is much more complex and diverse than it appears. I am intrigued by how ancient migration, assimilation, and cultural exchanges have shaped me. This has allowed me to accept and embrace the complexity and diversity that is seeped into my very DNA, shaping my identity in ways I had never expected.
