Unraveling Hammonds Lineage through iGENEA DNA Test: A Remarkable Journey across Ethnicities and Continents

Family name Hammonds

A journey of self-discovery and ancestral marvel began with my decision to undergo a DNA test through iGENEA, focusing on the Hammonds surname's genetic history. The ensuing results were illuminating, revealing roots in Celtic, Viking and Eastern European ancestry. Moreover, it was astounding to see a genetic affinity with present-day populations in traditionally Celtic and Viking regions, painting a vivid historical texture to my identity.

My personal exploration into my lineage and family history began when I submitted a DNA sample to iGENEA, a renowned genetic testing company. The focus of my investigation was the surname 'Hammonds,' and the results of the iGENEA DNA test have opened a new and fascinating window of understanding about my genealogical background.

The DNA results indicated a clear trace back to the Celtic origins. Interestingly, the genetic markers associated with my maternal line are consistent with those found predominantly in communities settled by the Celts in Britain and Ireland. This genetic evidence suggests that the Hammonds bear the historical footprint of these vibrant cultures.

Furthermore, the tested DNA also revealed a connection to the Vikings, Northern Germanic seafaring warriors and traders. The presence of these markers, in combination with my family's oral history, strongly suggests that the Hammonds might have been part of the Viking expansions, which took place from the late eighth to early 11th century.

Another intriguing piece of information gleaned from the test is the rather high percentage of Eastern European ancestry. The clarity of this genetic marker suggests a more recent ancestral connection, potentially tracing back to the large-scale migrations across Europe during and after World War II.

The iGENEA DNA test also compared my genetic markers with those of current international populations. The study demonstrated a significant genetic affinity with individuals living in present-day Scotland, especially in regions with a history of Celtic and Viking settlements. Fascinatingly, a marked similarity was also found with a population cluster in Northwestern Russia.

Overall, my DNA test revealed a fascinating journey across centuries and continents. From the verdant coasts of Ireland to the harsh landscapes of Scandinavia, and to the heartlands of Eastern Europe, the Hammonds carry the genetic echoes of these past civilizations within us, teaching us that we are all intricately connected in the grand tapestry of human history.
