Unveiling the Heritage Tapestry: A DNA Test Exploration of the Surname Celik

Family name Celik

Using a simple swab test, I embarked on an iGENEA DNA test to unravel the historical tales intertwined within my genetic code. Analysing my Y-DNA and mtDNA brought into light fascinating narratives around the surname Celik, revealing its roots in East Africa, its notable presence in and around Turkey, probable ties with ancient Berber communities, and a surprising connection to Jewish ancestry.

An expedition into the annals of my genetic code yielded intriguing insights via an iGENEA DNA test. This scientific journey guided by a simple swab test has unpacked historical narratives buried within my DNA, shining new light on the ethnic, geographic, and migrational contexts of the surname Celik.

Upon analyzing the paternal Y-DNA, it was revealed that the Celik surname is predominantly associated with the E-M35 haplogroup. Historically, this genetic group traces its origins to East Africa, approximately 22,400 years ago, implying that the Celik familial origins are likely rooted in our most ancient homelands.

However, the current distribution of the E-M35 haplogroup is primarily around the eastern Mediterranean and Middle East regions. This implies a significant migrational shift. The surname Celik is common in Turkey and other regions of the Balkans, resonating with the genetic findings.

A deep ancestry analysis introduced an unsuspected narrative - an affiliation to the ancient Berber populations. This tribal cluster dominated North Africa before recent Arab invasions and still retain diverse communities in regions of Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia.

Cross-referencing this with historical accounts of Berber merchants and explorers navigating routes to southeastern Europe further supplemented the genetic evidence. It seems plausible that the ancestors carrying the surname Celik might have been a part of these migrational waves.

The mtDNA analysis, which addresses the maternal lineage, identified haplogroup K1a4a1a, indicating a probable connection to Jewish ancestry. This was a fascinating revelation, hinting at an intermingling of cultures and regions between the maternal and paternal lineages in my family history.

This genetic odyssey has painted a rich historical tapestry defined by migration, integration, and survival. It allows a newfound appreciation for the ancestral journeys that led to my existence and the diverse heritage embodied by the surname Celik.
