Delving into the Origins of Abner: An Exploration through iGENEA DNA Test

Family name Abner

Harnessing the power of science and technology, I embarked on a fascinating journey with the iGENEA DNA test to unravel the mysteries enveloped within my surname, Abner. This comprehensive analysis allowed me to peek into the rich tapestry of my ancestors' lives, revealing an intriguing mix of Judaic, Celtic, and potentially Scottish and Welsh lineages.

My journey with the iGENEA DNA test began a few weeks ago, motivated by a profound interest in understanding the origins of my family name – Abner. Today, I am better equipped with a scientifically-backed understanding of my ancestry, thanks to iGENEA's well-detailed process and their comprehensive analyses.

The primary results from my DNA test exhibited a significant tie to a Judaic origin, corresponding with the biblical figure, Abner, who was a renowned warrior and cousin to King Saul in the Old Testament. Intriguingly, however, the genetic markers also unearthed a substantial Celtic link – suggesting that the ancestors carrying the Abner surname likely migrated from the Middle East to the Celtic regions at some point.

The deep ancestry analysis diagram provided by iGENEA further underscored the impressively far-reaching migration patterns of the Abner lineage. Tracing back the paternal lineage, the test pointed towards the foundational Haplogroup, R-M269, which is profoundly rooted in the regions of Western Europe. This haplogroup is predominantly associated with the direct paternal line of descent in Western Europe, thereby adding weight to the Celtic influence in the Abner surname.

Strikingly, the DNA results also shed light on genetic variances that situated the Abner lineage within a minor community of people, who may have resided in the British Isles during the Middle Ages. The percentage of the lineage belonging to a lesser-known subclade, R-CTS4466, suggests that the Abner lineage has a high probability of Scottish and Welsh origins as well.

The iGENEA DNA test presented me with an immersive timeline, tracing the geographical and cultural trajectory of my ancestors. With specific genetic markers corresponding to historically significant upheavals and migrations, the complex tapestry of my lineage from the Middle East to Western Europe was unravelled.
